Since They Built It will the Public Come?

Well opening day is almost here… just hours away and counting down…

and THIS Year Dunkin Stadium; home of the Hartford Yard Goats, will actually open on it’s scheduled date and time!

http://www.milb.com/schedule/index.jsp?sid=t538

Something which it failed to do last year due to all the many building and legal troubles plaguing the; shady done in back rooms to cheat out on the city of New Britain, town council deal from 2013/14…

Not personally a fan of baseball to start with, I was against the building of the stadium using taxpayer monies from the get go… as a taxpaying homeowner like many others I resent that due to the many legal troubles that the city of Hartford over the mismanagement of city funds that we in the suburbs are being forced to pay for this project which doesn’t really do much to benefit current residents of the north end of Hartford who lost a supermarket deal with the stadium going in.

With all of the legal stuff going on, the stadium which had problems with work stopping and starting and then off again with new people needing to be brought in to finish up, I do hope that eventually the citizens of the north end of Hartford will be able to benefit.

We can all hope that the stadium will do well, but no matter how pretty it might be (if you can call the building pretty) the questions are…

“Will the Public Come as Paying Ticket Holders?”

“Will people bring their families to the edge of the north end of Hartford which has a reputation for drugs and gags and shootings?”

After all the money that has been wasted on this project I do hope that the team stays in town and some how against the odds the stadium can turn an actual profit…

But the democrats in power seem to have a knack for making businesses and jobs leave the state after giving them millions of taxpayer dollars and tax breaks so I’m not holding out my breath on this turning out to be profitable…

So let’s see if this year at least if they can get and keep the stadium filled with baseball fans cheering

“Let’s Go Yard Goats!!! Chomp Chomp Chomp!!”

Mohegan Sun to open a Korean location

There will now be an International Flavor for the Mohegan Sun Brand

This report has the newest expansion being put over in South Korea & it will be a big expansion…

In light of this news the question that comes to my mind is why the push for a new rinky dink casino in CT on non-tribal land?

Are they just looking for a quick boost to finance this project overseas?

How committed are they planning to be to us in CT when they’ve slashed their own profits in CT already by opening a competing casino in the tourism region of the Poconos PA?

There are only so many gamblers in CT, MA, NY & NJ… where there was little competition in the past they now have other casinos but they additionally slashed their own profits (and ours too since CT was supposed to get a cut of the pie) by opening in PA.

Since it’s opening in PA which was drawing away people who wanted to do several things on vacation the profits have gone down here in CT.

Better Tourism  Dept in PA was part of the key for CT’s profits loss because many people decided if they were going to drive for 2 hours they would rather have a destination that offered more than just drinking & gambling & expensive shopping.

PA has it’s tourist destinations clearly marketed & it’s actually warmer longer there earlier in the year.

The question is why are CT’s Historical Sites being destroyed for cookie cutter crap instead of promoting CT’s History Richness?

Winter Storm Faith Feb 2015

What a difference a year makes…

Last year in Jan – Feb 2015 we were hit with more snow than we wanted.

Our CT Tradition of naming winter storms had us all the way up to the letter F.

This year so far in 2016 we only have had 1 named winter storm. For the most part not much snow or even traffic problems for CT because #WinterStormAnna came on a weekend. While those who love to ski are complaining about the lack of snow, personally I do not mind because I don’t care for cold weather. I enjoy Spring, Summer & Fall for their colors & warm sunny days.

Outside of CT the nation was using the name that the weather channel had given her & they called Winter Storm Anna the next name on their storm list which was Jonas.

Anna/Jonas put a hurting on the southern states & then just a slap on the rump for CT. Yes after a snow filled winter of 2015 I’m enjoying this year which has been mostly rain.

With all of the extra taxes that Malloy & his henchmen at the capitol who locked the republicans out of the budget room have heaped upon us, saving on heating oil due to the warmer winter this season helps out the home budget.

Election Day is here #GOTV Calls

Today is the Day to Get Out The VOTE!

Polls opened up at 6am & will be opened until 8pm
(barring any funny business at the polling stations which seems to be happening a lot the past few years in our cities)

Have you already gone to Vote before going to work?

Call Friends & Family & Remind them to #GOTV

Can you take a Co-Worker to go vote during your lunch break?

Can you get out early to assist with getting friends & family & neighbors to the voting booths?

Call the candidate that you are supporting & ask if there is some assistance that you can offer, many times there are polling stations that could use a sign waver outside for an hour or two.

Did you remind the people in your social networks?

If we are going to turn around our state we must begin with our cities & towns.

NC Enters Year 4 of Common Core and Reading Retention for 3rd Graders Increases Statewide

Those who are fighting common core have been made fun of the parents fighting common core & the administrations in most states have gone on the attack to try to drown out the voices of those concerned & knowledgeable enough to stand up & say “NO This is Very Bad for our children & we do not want it”

With each passing year the schools make excuses after excuses for why the students are doing poorly…
Then they demand more money because they think that if the test scores are bad then of course they must spend more money on the worst educational system that was developed…

#ParentsRights are being denied as many school officials try to hide the curriculum & lessons & tests from the parents. Teachers & Administrators have gone against what are in the best interest of the children in their push to add more highly paid staff with titles to do worthless studies…

Our children are worth more than the crazy experiments which these testing corporations are doing. We can not afford for our children’s lives to be ruined by these people.

#StopCommonCoreInCT end the moneypit waste that we have going on in every town in CT.

Learn All that you can about this program & then get down to the town halls & demand for the removal of this mess from our state & towns! #TakeBackOurSchools

Driving in Winter – ugh I Hate Snow on the Roads

Yes it’s that bane to unicorn fart believers time of year – WINTER

When freezing temps & lots of snow is falling & we in the frozen lands ask “Hey can you send some of that global warming over here?”

I hate driving in winter during snow storms or afterwards when there is a hit or miss on will the roads being traveled be plowed & cleared.

Sometimes it can’t be helped people have to go to work & children off to schools & snow storms have their own schedule.

What is in your car as you’re driving around this winter?

I’ve been lucky to not have gotten stuck in the snow on the roadside but they have shown on the news this winter how others have not been so lucky.

I’ve done my best to stay off the roads when possible when snow is falling but a couple of times have had the unpleasant experience of being out when the snowstorm starts.

People yes we all want to get home & out of the snow but SLOW DOWN!
What good is speeding home to hit an ice patch & have an accident that causes not only you but everyone on the highway after you to spend an even longer time stuck in the cold in a traffic jam?
Saw that happen on my way home from DC earlier this winter.

Emergency Kit Backpack

Emergency Kit Backpack

Do you have a blanket or some sort of throw inside the car to reach for if you get stuck for an extended period of time out in the mess? If you have children then an old twin blanket for them in the back seat will reach across the seat to cover them all fold in half lengthwise to add warmth & a 2nd one for the adults in the front seat.

With it being winter try to never let the gas tank go below 3/4 full would be ideal but reality is not as easy to do as we’d like. The danger in letting the gas tank go below 1/4 is that in a traffic jam you could run out of gas or more common is that in this cold the gas lines will freeze. To help against gaslines freezing in the car adding some drygas to a full tank once a month has helped me over the years.

While it’s not snowing take a few minutes to gather items for your next trip out to the car
Snow Scraper with Brush – reminder the new law passed we have to remove car roof snow too
Extra Mittens to just leave in the car
Sunglasses – glare from the sun & snow means sunglasses are year round requirement for driving
Blankets or Throws – 1 for each row of seats
Flashlights & a RED film covering for signaling to show up against snow day or night
Some munchies to leave in the car like granola bars or protein bars that are wrapped & not affected by freezing or heat for a month
Candle in a Tin & Matches – hey save gas & battery life with a candle in a tin if stuck on the roadside adds a tiny bit of heat too
First Aid kit – pick one up at the store & add what you need to it & put it under the front seat

There are websites that offer more in depth details about what to have in an emergency kit for the car & home. One of the sites which I have been involved with is http://AroundTheCabin.com/Campfire This is where we can chat, ask questions & discuss all sort of different ideas about life in a world without electrical power or emergencies like Katrina / Sandy style events.
They start 8pm eastern Sunday through Friday nights & will be expanding their times on air as they bring on more hosts.

Take Action & Call All of our congressional leaders #MakeDCListen
CT has a total of 7 members in the 2 arms of congress make a call to ALL 7
Or you can stop into their CT Office Locations to leave a Petition of your friends & family
Or if you want to brave the weather & can get a few friends to join you then grab some signs & walk around the block that the office is on & show your displeasure #OccupyCongress

We might be able to afford to be able to go down to DC to make our elected listen to us but we can each afford to call all 7 of our elected officials that are in congress & we should be able to make some time to also stop by their offices here in CT
If you want to call their DC offices & send faxes of the signatures that you’ve gathered in support of Free Speech on the Internet check the Sec of State website http://www.ct.gov/sots/cwp/view.asp?a=3179&q=515402
